Since I have now learned that EA is bringing it back for 2010, I decided to pop open my 08 version.I really like some of the graphics and gameplay, compared to 2006. but I'll try). I have to go with what the coach calls. I found it far easier in team management mode to use the arrow keys so I could be sure my depth chart was the way I wanted it at all positions. One of the main changes I noticed is that in superstar mode, I am no longer able to control the gameplay with my superstar. I don't get to call the plays most suitable to my star's (or my own) skills. I've had this game in the box for a while because I also own Madden 2006 for PC, and I wasn't ready to break out the new one, especially since I thought 2008 might be the last version for PC. On '06, most menus have the option to use a drop-down OR arrow keys to change selection, whether switching positions in team management mode or raising/lowering salary in contract signing mode.
THIS IS HORRIBLE.Based on that alone, I can say I'm not sold on this version of the game. The superstar also has a few new skills to show off at the combines before he is drafted, so that's been fun to learn.Franchise mode is not much different as far as I can tell. The thing that really annoys me about this compared to '06 is the navigation. It is my sincere hope (and I've written to EA about it already) that the arrows are put back in the navigation systems so that we have a choice. (In '06 I could simply run up the scores with my star on the team, giving him high marks and skills, and even getting him on the Madden cover eventually. (Granted, I cannot comment on how similar it is to 07, which has been a problem for others). Well, those arrows are now GONE.
This makes it a little more difficult to excel. I'm not sure I'll be able to do that on '08. I can only use the drop-down menu and select a position, check the depth chart at that position, then use the drop-down menu again until I've gone through each position. How ridiculous that they took it out.
I spent hours and hours building up a superstar. Why would you buy an older version when the newer version is only $10, and in my opinion, Madden 08's gameplay was great. I have never played Madden on PC before Madden 08. I do just fine with an ATI Radeon 3450. I would recommend this game to all those football fans out there because it is a great football game. And when I found out that Madden 08 was also on PC, and at a price of only $10, I decided, hey, why not also buy it for PC. Seriously, I don't understand.
Although I did need to adapt from using the PS2 controls to PC controls, there wasn't any other main differences in gameplay at all with the console versions and the PC versions.I was very upset that EA decided to not release Madden 09 for PC, but the good news it that they will for 2010 season. I've had Madden 08 for PS2 and I absolutely loved it. Except for the flashing screen when the game loads up (and it only flashed once), I have not experienced any glitches at all, the gameplay was otherwise very smooth. First off, unlike many other console games available on PC, you do not need a great graphics card. I never played Madden 07 for PC, and I am confused about why some of the reviewers were whining about Madden 08 not being much better than 07 version. I'll be looking forward to another season of Madden on my PC. Thank you for taking your time and reading this.
The Playstation version or the Xbox versions of Madden 09 may have more of what you are looking for. Whether you find the game worthy of the money spent (cheap nowadays) and the hard disk space used depends on your purpose and your priorities. If you are looking for a remarkable, life-changing game experience, then you may want to look elsewhere. If, however, you are like me, you don't have a console system, and you are wanting an outlet for your football fantasies, you might find the PC edition of Madden 08 perfectly suitable, just as I have. I'm not fussy - I just wanted to have a means to play some football, and for that this works fine.
Being involved in a football game from the quarterback's position is an eye-opening experience. This game gives the player a sense of the different pressures a quarterback must deal with, from the ticking play clock to the bull-rush of opposing linemen. Quick reflexes and elusive moves are necessary to avoid being sacked while trying to find an open receiver and completing a pass. To be successful at this game, the player must get intensively involved-and hit the showers when the time clock expires.
As usual, Amazon was amazing with their service and e-mail updates. The game, however, is just an xbox port. And for some reason, the developers actually took features out of this version versus the original xbox release. It's fun, but it'd be better to get a console version. If you don't have the money for a console, this version will due.
